The social dilemma
This documentary is captivating as it revolves around the theme of the way that social media and the data you give to these when u use their product is collected to form an online avatar of you where the puppeteers i.e. The companies that created such websites can then predict your behavior, which is quite terrifying.
Social media has connected a lot of people, it has a lot of pros and cons on the surface level not to mention the problems like data mining that are not so apparent up until quite recently. The inherent problems with social media such as body shaming, negative effect on mental health, rising teen suicide rates have affected our generation a lot, adults too have been affected to some extent.
Whereas the problem that has been hidden from us issues including tech addiction, the spread of misinformation and conspiracy theories, election manipulation and the algorithms social media and companies use to suggest content and target advertisements. It also shows a fictitious family played by actors to illustrate the negative effects of social media addiction. The documentary also features interviews with former execs of Google, Facebook, etc.
The documentary did a great job of enlightening these issues so that the public can understand them.
